Take a look at some frequently asked questions about our military car insurance:

Can I pay monthly?

You can pay your premiums monthly by Direct Debit if you want to. Unlike many other insurers, we won’t charge you extra on top of your normal yearly premium.

How do I change my policy?

If you need to change your policy, call our UK-based helpline. We won’t penalise you with administration charges, however please note your policy premium may change depending on what you want to change. Call us on 0151 363 5290 Mon-Fri 9.00am-5.00pm.

How do I cancel my policy?

If no claims have been made during the current period of insurance, we will refund the proportional (pro-rata) amount of the premium which applies to the remaining period of insurance, less a minimum premium of £25 (subject to insurance premium tax (IPT) where applicable). Call us on 0151 363 5290 (Mon – Fri 9am – 5pm) or write to us at Forces Mutual, Exchange Station, Tithebarn Street, Liverpool, L2 2QP.

Do I get a courtesy car?

You get a temporary hire car as standard while your vehicle is at an insurer recommended repairer. So you don’t have to worry about organising one yourself. Subject to availability.

Who is allowed to drive my car?

Cover will be provided for anyone allowed by the Certificate of Motor Insurance to drive your car, as long as they are driving the car with your permission.

Are additional drivers on my car insurance policy insured to drive other cars?

No.

I’m told I need Business Use to claim expenses back from JPA. Is this necessary?

Yes if you use your vehicle to travel to and from more than one place of business you will need Class 1 Business Use on your motor insurance policy, which we can add to your policy. Social, domestic and pleasure including commuting policies, only cover travel to and from your usual place of business. That is fine for most members of the public but the Armed Forces may be stationed at one place but have to travel elsewhere for training, or simply helping to fill a temporary need at another base. If you have this level of cover you will be able to claim your relevant business expenses.

If I have a claim for windscreen damage, does it affect my No Claims Discount?

No, windscreen claims do not affect your No Claim Discount.

Does my car insurance cover me to drive other vehicles?

Depending on the level of car insurance cover you have chosen, you may be able to drive other cars at third party cover (with the owner’s permission). You will need to check this on your insurance policy documents.

Do I have to show my car insurance certificate when I use my car abroad?

When you take your car abroad the cover you have is shown on your insurance certificate, so you must always take this with you. You do not need to carry a green card when you drive in the EU (including Ireland), Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Serbia, and Switzerland.

Are child seats replaced after an accident?

Yes, if you have a child car seat in your car and your car is involved in an accident that results in impact damage to your car, we will replace the child seat with a new one of the same quality, even if it doesn’t appear to be damaged.

What is accidental damage cover?

Accidental damage is covered on comprehensive policies. This covers you for damage to your car as well as the third party’s vehicle after an accident.
