Have a question?

Take a look at some frequently asked questions about our military car insurance:

+Why choose us?

Forces Mutual is not only a member of the Services and Investment Advisory panel (SIIAP) but we regularly provide technical advice on a range of issues that affect HM Armed Forces in the insurance market.

+Can I pay monthly?

Yes for your car insurance you can pay by monthly direct debit. For policies taken out from 25 May 2018 your premiums will be collected by PMGI Limited and unlike many other policies, you won't be charged any interest on top of your normal premium.

+How do I change my policy?

If you need to make a change such as a change of car or requiring a new level of cover, just call our UK based help line and we'll be happy to help. If there is a change in your premium we'll let you know. Call us on 00800 00 01 02 03 or 0345 658 1140 (Mon - Fri 9am - 5pm).

+How do I cancel my policy?

If you need to cancel your policy, just call our UK based help line and we'll be happy to help.

Call us on 00800 00 01 02 03 or 0345 658 1140 (Mon - Fri 9am - 5pm)

+Do I get a courtesy car?

You get a temporary hire car as standard while your vehicle is at an insurer recommended repairer. So you don't have to worry about organising one yourself.

+I am thinking about buying a car that has been imported from outside Europe. Would you be able to provide cover?

Please call us to discuss this further on 00800 00 01 02 03 or 0345 658 1140

+Can you provide me with a quote for my classic car?

Please call us to discuss this further on 00800 00 01 02 03 or 0345 658 1140

+My car has been modified; will you be able to provide cover?

Please call us to discuss this further on 00800 00 01 02 03 or 0345 658 1140

+Who is allowed to drive my car?

Cover will be provided for anyone allowed by the Certificate of Motor Insurance to drive your car, as long as they are driving the car with your permission.

+I take my car to Europe at least 5 months of the year. Can you provide cover?

If you are a serving member of the armed forces you are covered in Europe for 365 days per year. If you are a family relation you will be covered for 180 days. If additional cover is required please call us on 0800 032 2610

+What is a no claims discount/bonus?

No claims discounts/bonus represents the number of years you have held a policy without making a claim or having a claim made against you.

+What is policy excess?

Policy excess is the part of claim that you agree to pay - the car insurance covers you for the remaining amount of the claim, subject to cover limits.

+Is immediate cover available?

If you buy your policy over the phone immediate cover is available.

+How do I know if my claim is covered?

The car insurance claims advisors are fully trained and have an excellent knowledge of the policy cover you have arranged. Wherever possible, they will let you know during your first call whether your claim is covered by your policy. It may help you to read through the policy document along with your schedule of cover before ringing to report your claim.

+When my car is in the garage for a service, does my car insurance cover me to drive the garage's courtesy car?

Please call us for further details on 00800 00 01 02 03 or 0345 658 1140

+Are additional drivers on my car insurance policy insured to drive other cars?

No

+I'm told I need Business Use to claim expenses back from JPA. Is this necessary?

Yes if you use your vehicle to travel to and from more than one place of business you will need Class 1 Business Use on your motor insurance policy, which we can add to your policy.

Social, domestic and pleasure including commuting policies only cover travel to and from your usual place of business. That is fine for most members of the public but the Armed Forces may be stationed at one place but have to travel elsewhere for training, or simply helping to fill a temporary need at another base. If you have this level of cover you will be able to claim your relevant business expenses.

+If I have a claim for windscreen damage, does it affect my No Claim Discount?

No, windscreen claims do not affect your No Claim Discount.

+Do I have to pay the excess towards a Third Party claim?

No, you only need to pay the excess towards your own repairs.

+Does my car insurance cover me to drive other vehicles?

Depending on the level of car insurance cover you have chosen, you may be able to drive other cars at third party cover (with the owner's permission). You will need to check this on your insurance policy documents.

+Do I have to show my car insurance certificate when I use my car abroad?

When you take your car abroad the cover you have is shown on your insurance certificate so you must always take this with you.

+Are child seats replaced after an accident?

Yes, if you have a child car seat in your car and your car is involved in an accident that results in impact damage to your car, we will replace the child seat with a new one of the same quality, even if it doesn't appear to be damaged.

+What is accidental damage cover?

Accidental damage is covered on comprehensive policies. This covers you for damage to your car as well as the third party's vehicle after an accident.

+How do I add another driver to my car insurance policy?

If you want to add another driver to your existing policy, please call us on 00800 00 01 02 03 or 0345 658 1140. You will need the following information about the other driver:

  • Their name;
  • Date of birth;
  • Occupation;
  • Driving licence details; and
  • Their driving experience (such as any previous claims or motoring convictions).

+Are factory fitted options classed as modifications to my car?

No factory fitted options are not classed as modifications. A modification is anything made after the car leaves the factory that alters the standard specification or the appearance of the car. The fittings should be declared as part of the overall value of the vehicle.

+I've been based in Germany for a number of years. Will you accept my foreign no claims discount?

Yes, we can accept foreign No Claims Discounts.

+We have just acquired a second car. Will I have to start again with Nil No Claims Discount?

Not necessarily. Our insurer may allow the No Claims Discount to be earned on the first car to be re-used on the second car. This is called a 'mirror' No Claims Discount

+I am being deployed overseas. Can I suspend my policy?

Yes our insurer may allow you to suspend your cover if you are deployed overseas. To find out if your able to do this, please call us on 00800 00 01 02 03 or 0345 658 1140.
