Kit & Personal Possessions and Kit Start Insurance is arranged by Motorplus Limited t/a Coplus and underwritten by Collinson Insurance Limited (a trading name of Astrenska Insurance Limited).
Kit & Personal Possessions Legal Expenses Cover is provided by ARAG plc who is authorised to administer this insurance on behalf of the insurer ARAG Legal Expenses Insurance Company Limited.

Who can take out Kit Insurance?
Kit & Personal Possessions Insurance
You must be:
- aged under 80 years of age, and
- a serving member of H.M. Forces, or
- civilian staff of the MoD, or
- the husband, wife, civil partner or partner of the above
or with our prior approval:
- a member of the Army Reserve, or
- a contractor employed by the MoD, or
- an employee of an affinity partner of the MoD

You must be:
- aged under 80 years of age, and living in single service accommodation, and
- a serving member of H.M. Forces, or
- civilian staff of the MoD
or with our prior approval:
- a member of the Army Reserve, or
- a contractor employed by the MoD, or
- an employee of an affinity partner of the MoD.
Where am I covered?
This policy provides cover anywhere in the world however there are limits for certain sections. For example, the Contents section will only provide cover within the boundary of the home that you have declared as your main residence, wherever in the world this may be.
Can I pay monthly?
Yes, you can choose to pay monthly by Direct Debit. Unlike other insurers, we don’t charge extra on top of your annual premium, so you can spread the cost without needing to pay a lump sum upfront.
When does the cover start and end?
Your cover starts on the date shown on your schedule and will continue unless the policy is cancelled, as long as you pay your monthly premium.

What is Licence to occupy cover?
Cover applies for any accidental damage that may be caused whilst living in any single service living accommodation. This extends to service family accommodation or private tenancy agreement on the Kit & Personal Possessions cover.
Is there a cooling off period?
If you apply for this policy and change your mind within 14 days after receiving the insurance documents, you can cancel it. Forces Mutual will refund your premium payment as long as you haven’t made any claims, and you don’t have any pending claims. To cancel, just contact Forces Mutual on 0151 363 5290.
What is not insured?
It is important to read the Insurance Product Information Document (IPID) and Policy Document that lists what is not insured in your policy to ensure the product you take out is right for you. These documents are available above.
Does the policy cover theft from your vehicle?
You are not covered from theft from unattended road vehicles other than from a locked concealed luggage boot, concealed luggage compartment or glove compartment following forcible and violent entry to a securely locked vehicle. Please see IPID and Policy Document for policy limit under this section.
I would like to amend details on the policy, can I do this?
Yes, it is important to update Forces Mutual of any changes that could affect your cover to your policy. Please contact us on 0151 363 5290.
What is the excess per claim?
The standard excess are:
- Standard £60
- Tech Excess (laptop computers including netbooks, Ipads and tablets) £125
- Goods in Transit claim £150
- Any goods in transit claim within the first 3 months (or 3 months of adding contents on the Kit and Personal Possessions policy: £250
Specific excesses will be confirmed in your policy schedule as could change if endorsements are added to your policy.
Does the policy cover your kit during deployments and overseas exercises?
Yes.
Are there any limits on the value of individual items or the overall claim amount?
Throughout the policy there are a few single article limits that apply, any item valued higher than these will need to be specified. Please see IPID for full details.
I have moved address but forgotten to update my details, is my claim still valid?
It is really important to update Forces Mutual of a change of address as this could invalidate your cover. Please contact 0151 363 5290.
Am I covered for accidental damage to personal possession during training or everyday use?
You will be covered in both circumstances as long as you adhere to the policy terms and conditions, which can be found in your Policy Wording.
I’m a Forces Mutual policyholder and am just about to retire from the Forces. Can I still continue the policy?
No, unfortunately if you no longer meet the policy eligibility the policy will need to cease. Please contact Forces Mutual on 0151 363 5290 so they can arrange the monthly payments to be cancelled.
I have children in boarding school, are their possessions covered?
No, unfortunately the policy would not apply for children living away from your home. If you have purchased the Kit and Personal Possessions policy cover will apply to family members living with you.
What’s a risk address and why do I need it?
This is the address that you live at and want to insure under your policy.
Does the policy cover personal items like phones, wallets, and watches?
Yes, you are covered for things that belong to you or that you are responsible for and are meant to be carried or worn, like clothes and electronics, pedal cycles, sports gear, phones, laptops, music players, GPS, swords, firearms, and contact lenses.
If I make a claim what mobile phone or laptop replacement will I get?
Where possible we would look to repair the device, if this is not achievable, we would look to supply you with a replacement device of similar value.
Am I covered if my device stops working due to old age/wear and tear?
No, the policy will cover accidental damage or accidental loss to your device.

You may need to give us some information and proof to help with your claim. This will include things like:
- The date of the incident
- The cause of the loss or damage
- Details of the loss or damage together with claim value if known
- Police details where applicable
- Names and addresses of any other parties involved or responsible for the incident (including details of injuries) and addresses of any witnesses
- Original purchase receipts, invoices, instruction booklets or photographs
- Purchase dates and location of lost or damaged property
- For damaged property, confirmation from a suitably qualified expert that the item you are claiming for is beyond repair.
