Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if the activity I am planning to do during my holidays is covered under this policy?
The policy offers cover for a number of activities as standard. However, there are some activities that do require additional cover due to their nature. Please refer to your policy wording for further information. If the activity that you are interested in is not shown in your documents, please contact us on 0151 363 5290 and we would be happy to assist you. It is likely that we will ask you to complete a form requesting some more information relating to this activity.
My leave has been approved but would I be covered to cancel my holidays if it is now cancelled?
The policy considers cancellation/curtailment claims if your authorised leave is cancelled or you are called up for operational reasons, provided that the cancellation or curtailment could not reasonably have been expected at the time when you purchased this insurance or at the time of booking any trip.
What is considered a pre-existing medical condition?
Any medical condition you have, or have had, for which you are taking or have been taking prescribed medication or any medical condition, you have, or have had, for which you are waiting to receive, or have received treatment (including surgery, tests or investigations). For more information, please refer to the ‘Important conditions relating to health’ of your policy wording.
I am not sure if I am eligible for this policy.
If you are aged under 65 years, and a serving member of H.M. Forces, or civilian staff of H.M. Forces you are eligible. Who can be covered under this policy?
Please find the available types of policy:
Individual: A person who is named on the policy schedule.
Couple: A person and their husband, wife, civil partner or common law partner who permanently reside together at the same address and who are both named on the policy schedule.
Single Parent Family: A person who is named on the policy schedule and any number of his or her children, stepchildren or foster- children aged under 18 (or aged under 23 if in full time education) also named on the policy schedule.
Family: A person and their husband, wife, civil partner or common law partner who permanently reside together at the same address and who are both named on the policy schedule and any number of his or her children, step-children or foster-children aged under 18 (or aged under 23 if in full time education) also named on the policy schedule.
My daughter is 15 years old. Can she travel on her own?
Children under 18 years old must travel with an insured adult named on this policy, or with another responsible adult who is 18 years or over. The children must be going to the same destination as the insured adult.
Can my 20 year old son travel independently?
Children aged between 18 – 22 years (in full time education) can travel independently, but only to visit or holiday with the insured adult or policyholder. Cover will end when the child has graduated from further education or once they terminate their education (including gap years), or upon reaching their 23rd birthday, whichever date is earliest.
Am I covered to travel in the UK?
Any holiday within the United Kingdom is only covered where you have pre booked at least one night’s accommodation in a hotel, motel, holiday camp, bed and breakfast, holiday cottage or similar accommodation rented for a fee. Please refer to your policy documents to review cover for UK trips.
I am currently posted overseas for 6 months, and I have just booked my holidays. Are there any restrictions on cover?
If you’re in the Armed Forces and your holiday or pleasure trip starts outside the UK, it must either last more than 8 hours or take you more than 50 miles (80 km) away from your base. This is because you wouldn’t reasonably expect to be covered by military medical services once you’re that far from base. Your travel insurance starts when you leave your base and ends when you return.
What is the maximum trip limit?
The maximum trip duration is 45 days. For Winter Sports, the limit is 17 days in a rolling 12-months period.
My visa was not issued in time for my trip. Can I cancel?
The policy would not consider claims arising from not obtaining a visa or a visa being withdrawn.
Am I covered for Cruises?
There would be limited cover under this product for a cruise (subject to the terms and conditions of the policy). This product does not offer a cruise extension, so specialised cover for cruises would not be in place. (missed ports/quarantine etc.) Please note that in the scenario of a cancellation claim the policy will pay up to the maximum limit and not to the actual cost.
I am due to leave for an exercise with the Forces but my weekends will be free. Will the policy cover me during this time?
Whilst it cannot cover you for the time you are on duty with the Forces, it can cover you during your R&R as long as you have a trip booked for your R&R time. Please refer to the definition of trip in the wording for more information.
I am planning to go hiking soon. Will the policy cover me if I need to be evacuated?
Whilst the policy does not cover search and rescue costs, medical evacuation will be considered if the Assistance Team confirms it is medically necessary. Therefore, if you need help, please make sure you contact the Assistance Team as soon as you are able to in order to avoid any delays.
My son is 20, has finished school and has recently started an apprenticeship. Is he covered under my policy?
We would not consider apprenticeship full time education; therefore, he would not be covered under this policy.
My parents have organised and paid for a trip for me and my family. Will we have cancellation cover?
Anyone named on the policy would have cancellation cover but for their share only. The policy will not compensate anyone who is not covered under this policy.
